Science channels on YouTube

Are YouTube and science at all compatible?

When did you actually last use YouTube? You think seldom to not at all. That’s probably not quite true. When did you then last see a video or a cinema trailer? Probably not that long ago.

However, YouTube offers a lot more than mere entertainment. YouTube is also used more and more in the scientific and didactic areas.

YouTube is much more than pure entertainment!

YouTube is much more than pure entertainment. As scientific blogs, videos also provide amateurs the opportunity to record complex topics. Globally, an incredible number of people are reached and worldwide networking with like-minded people as well as the content-related range is almost infinite.

► Things explained - in a nutshell
«Kurzgesagt» in German is equivalent to «in a nutshell» in English and a very well-known video channel which explains amateurs complex scientific topics from the fields of physics, biology, philosophy and technology in simple terms.

► Science spectrum
Enriches its users with videos from the publishing house «Spektrum der Wissenschaft» from its own editors and also articles from «Nature» as well as the «Scientific American». This channel provides an adequate response to practically all scientific questions, from quantum physics to the bio laboratory.

► Best Of Science
Absolutely worth taking a look! With numerous contributions from CERN, NASA and ESA, the Best of Science channel opens unbelievable views from physics and space travel.

► Labtricks
How do I use a centrifuge? How do you pour agar plates? How do I use a pipette and how does sequencing work? You can find answers to such and similar questions at Labtricks.

► Veritasium – cult status channel, active for 19 years
Almost 6 million users have subscribed this channel and watch Derek Muller’s videos regularly.

A whole host of further scientific channels exist on YouTube for the most varied of topics. Are you cautious regarding information safety? If so, it is better to keep with the large institutions and well-known manufacturers, because tutorials and product videos on YouTube can also be fakes. Several companies have their own YouTube channels and videos in the meantime with user tips, tutorials and assistance for products.
